BICC Officers and Standing Committees

Formation of committees is governed by BICC bylaws adopted in July 3, 2004 article V.

Section 1. ­Committees; Appointment and Authority. The Board of Directors, by resolution adopted by the affirmative vote, may designate two (2) or more Directors to constitute any committee approved by the Board of Directors, which committees shall have and may exercise all such authority of the Board as shall be provided in such resolution and as may be permitted by law. The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Manager shall constitute the Corporation’s Executive Committee, though the Executive Manager shall be a non-voting member of the Executive Committee. The designation of such committees and the delegation thereto of authority shall not operate to relieve the Board of Directors or any individual member thereof of any responsibility imposed by law on it, him, or her.

Section 2. ­Standing Committees. The Board of Directors may delegate its authority to certain standing committees. Any such committee shall have the authority and power delegated by the Board of Directors, but always subject to the applicable provisions of the Bylaws, Certificate of Incorporation, and the Act, or any successor legislation.

 

Standing Committees

Committees Membership

The following are a few qualities (in no particular order) to consider in any prospective committee member:

  1. Practicing Muslim with a basic understanding of Islam
  2. Respected individual of the community
  3. Proven track record for community service
  4. Experienced in the relevant field
  5. Works well with others
  6. Respect for BICC Board and the Imam

 

Maintenance Committee Functions:

  • Head of the committee: Center Custodian
  • Building maintenance including plumbing & ventilation systems
  • Cleaning and Maintaining the wash rooms
  • Special arrangements and adjustments according to the seasonal changes and climate requirements.

 

Sister’s Affairs Committee

  • Develop, plan and conduct activates for sisters such as social, cultural or educational.
  • Provide cultural, social and sports activities for sisters.
  • Meet the Islamic and social needs of the women who attend BICC activities. Examples: Islamic resources for mothers, women’s fitness, lectures specifically for women, etc.
  • The sister’s affair committee in consultation with the BICC shall appoint a sister, to act as a liaison between the sisters and the Board of Directors. 

 

Dawa Committee

  • Organize activities to promote Islam among non-Muslims.
  • Cooperate with other organizations to promote Islam such as MSAs at different universities.
  • Dawa committee will be responsible to teach and follow the progress of those who embrace Islam.

 

Education Committee

  • This committee will serve to meet the religious needs of Muslims in conformity with Islamic beliefs based on the Qur’an and Sunnah.
  • The committee is to formulate an elaborate breadth of Islamic education for BICC constituency.
  • These programs should imbue Islamic literacy among BICC constituency.
  • They are to encourage Muslims to learn and practice basic and higher-level knowledge of Islam. They are to facilitate: classes (by resident and visiting scholars), lectures, workshops, seminars, and topics as: Qur’an, Sunnah, Seerah, Tafseer, Islamic history, Hadith, Usul ul-Fiqh, Aqeedah, Arabic studies etc.
  • This committee will facilitate anything pertaining to Islamic education to the adults (college age and up).
  • The committee will develop plans and run weekend schools and afterschool programs.
  • The committee will develop a plan to run a full time school elementary within 1-2 years.
  • When full time school is established, staff and teachers will managed by a school Principal who reports to BICC Board through BICC President.

 

Social and Sports Committee

  • Purpose is to bring the community together through fun and convivial events.
  • The committee shall provide and organize facilities and programs for indoor and outdoor sports, and recreation, entertainment, picnics and outdoors activities.
  • Provide cultural, social and sports activities for the children.
  • Provide cultural, social and sports activities for adults.
  • Provide cultural and social activities for families.
  • Arrange social visits between different Muslim communities.
  • Examples of activities include: Eid activities, family nights, health/blood drives at BICC, civic engagement, fine arts classes (like calligraphy), picnics, fitness and sport tournaments, job networking, drug awareness, social ills etc.

 

Outreach Committee

  • Actively participate in outreach activities such as soup kitchen, food pantry, ESL education, cloth drives, coat drives, Habitat for Humanit, etc.
  • Members of this committee will be representative of BICC in Norma F. Pfriem Urban Outreach Initiatives, Inc.
